I really rather like the UK. I’m biased of course, I’ve lived here all my life. I’m also possessed of a rather sunny disposition (often unlike the topic of today’s post).

I’m currently bimbling around Northumberland, England’s most northernly county and absolutely loving it. It’s home to some of the least busy and most lovely stretches of coastline, Hadrian’s Wall and is the gateway to Scotland above.

A lot of the terrain and sights are familiar and yet still fresh. I grew up not too far away in North Yorkshire and day trips northwards would be a regular occurrence with early memories of clambering over what remains of the old Roman fort at Housesteads and following the Wall as far as we could. Living further away has given me a newfound appreciation of the area and the landscape and it’s a real joy to spend time here again.

And yet for all the time I’ve spent here I’m still finding places here anew and there’s so much of the rest of the UK as yet untrodden. I managed to go 30 years without ever seeing Cornwall so there’s still plenty to do down there and so much of the rugged North West merits further jaunts.

All that’s to say, there’s plenty to see and enjoy here in the UK. Plenty to experience for the first time, plenty of quiet corners and beautiful vistas. So I’ll pass on hours sat with no legroom, standstills at airport security and pixel-tiny luggage charge small print. I’ll stay home thanks.
